This exhibition emerged from my desire to explore the ancient role of artists as conduits
of visual storytelling and myth. During my time studying art and anthropology at SU, I
developed a deep appreciation for the diversity of human experience and a fascination with
how we, as Homo sapiens, relate to symbols, constructed ideas, and narratives.

For thousands of years, our ancestors have used visual symbols to make sense of their
inner and outer worlds and to communicate those understandings to others. From cave
paintings to written language to contemporary memes, these symbolic systems shape our
visual landscape and help stabilize our ape brains by crafting meaning within an ever-changing,
and often absurd, universe.

My work draws from this ancient lineage of mythmaking to process my own experiences
of pain, peace, and wholeness. By transmuting internal states and external observations into
physical form, I attempt to better understand these experiences while creating space for
others to reflect on their own.
