Jack Brown

B.F.A. Graphic Design

I find myself creatively rocking on the blurred line where perceived reality meets the illusory world, rampant with chaos and deception at the intersection of design, art, music, and fashion. I aim to enact social change through provocative graphics by exploring themes of peace, love, opposition to war, vulnerability, and the uncertainty of our world, as well as the ways we are all interconnected through our experiences, despite the different challenges we face.

I am inspired by the anti-design movement, vintage editorial and print design, wartime advertisements and propaganda, the hardcore and electronic music scenes, and elements of Swiss design. I have always had a busy mind for design, visual organization, and technology from a young age, and discovered a synthesis of these concepts in graphic design. I communicate this sense of wonder felt while maturing in an ever-evolving digital world, and the hopeless search for perfection through necessary chaos in my design rationale, through knowing traditional design rules in order to go and break them.

I hope to communicate this curiosity and raise questions among viewers for the unexplainable world we exist in. In my college career, I have gained useful fine art skills alongside my design education that have uniquely impacted the quality of my work and the disciplines I work within. Through the act of collaging, drawing, distressing, and the use of texture, I can push this idea further by illustrating depth, bridging the gap between reality and my digital work.

My work is a reaction to a visual space or conflict that needs organization, or an idea that needs room to be communicated. Through this, design resolves conflict, while art and music inform its emotional intensity.
