Anna Miller
B.F.A. Hot Glass & Sculpture
I am an experimenter in the arts, continually exploring diverse media to expand my skills and
ideas. My primary focus is hot glass and woodworking sculpture, but I also work in ceramics,
metalsmithing, casting, and jewelry. Each material presents a unique challenge, and I enjoy
learning how to manipulate them to deepen my understanding as an artist.
Pattern is a recurring theme throughout my work. I draw inspiration from traditional woodchip
carvings, expanding on their intricate designs and translating their concepts into other media.
As a glassblower, I incorporate line and pattern through Venetian techniques such as cane and
murrine, which infuse my glass forms with rhythm and color.
Craftsmanship is central to my artistic practice. I strive to create unified and complete works
that reflect both technical precision and creative expression. I am fascinated by the contrast
between the materials I use—the fluidity and flexibility of glass and ceramics versus the rigidity
and structure of wood and metal. Through my exploration of these media, I seek to discover
meaningful connections between them through design.
