Lily Golden
B.F.A. Drawing
My work explores the beauty found within the dark and unsettling. Through deep color palettes,
rough textures, and gothic imagery, I create visual narratives that both attract and disturb.
Vampires, creatures, castles, bones, and organs inhabit my compositions, forming a world
where the fantastical and the grotesque coexist.
I am drawn to horror and dark fantasy, and I find a strange beauty in the macabre—the way
darkness can reveal something raw, fragile, and unexpectedly elegant. By reimagining gothic
archetypes, I explore how fear and beauty intertwine, challenging the divide between attraction
and discomfort.
Rather than beginning with a fixed theme, I allow meaning to emerge through the process of
making. While my work is rooted in emotions such as grief, anxiety, fear, and loneliness, I leave
each piece open-ended, inviting viewers to form their own interpretations.
Through visceral imagery, dark colors, and layered textures, I blur the boundaries between life
and death, fantasy and reality. These elements create immersive, tactile worlds that feel both
unsettling and intimately human.
Ultimately, my work reflects a fascination with the tension between beauty and discomfort,
revealing the elegance that can exist within darkness.
