B.F.A. Graphic Design

As a graphic designer, I believe that good design is that which people can relate to. That connection begins by rooting each project in the environment where it will live, whether that be a gallery, restaurant, billboard, etc. The cultural and physical landscape shapes the design direction. My process is both research and emotionally-driven, preventing generic design. Research shapes color choices, materials, imagery, and tone, ensuring that every decision has purpose. I create designs that not only communicate information but also resonate with the audience. They establish an atmosphere and enhance a space. This requires functionality as much as aesthetics, from intentional color palettes to versatile design assets that can adapt across applications. Drawn to naturalistic and organic aesthetics, I create work that feels grounded, thoughtful, and deeply connected to its surroundings.

My work is deeply influenced by growing up on the Eastern Shore. Creating from lived

experience shapes what I notice, document, and value in my designs. The coastal landscape, shifting light, and natural textures inspire my organic forms and create a strong sense of place in my work. This awareness has me to question how different my work might be without those experiences. Our backgrounds influence what we see as meaningful. Designing from what I know creates authenticity and ensures my work remains grounded in observation, memory, and connection rather than trends.

These principles apply across the fine arts and applied arts, whether that be branding,

packaging, print, photography, or glass. Regardless of medium, good design must balance

aesthetics and function. Visual clarity is essential. Clean design, consistent color schemes, and appropriate typography create work that is visually engaging without overwhelming the

audience. I value cohesiveness and recognizability, designing to be timeless rather than chasing trends. I prioritize environmental responsibility and material awareness, considering how materials are sourced, produced, and experienced. Ultimately, design should tell a story and enhance a space, creating atmosphere, remaining practical when necessary. Good design connects emotionally and communicates clearly. Through research, clarity, sustainability, and contextual awareness, I aim to create work that is grounded, organic, and long-lasting.
